Today, Atherton Library hosted our new Mechanical Motion workshop. The aim of the workshop was to introduce basic engineering and construction concepts to the participants and challenge them to build a wooden toy that uses pushrods and cams to create moving scene.
During the workshop, the students were given a wooden toy kit containing all the necessary materials and instructions to build their toy. They learned how to use pushrods and cams to create up-and-down motions, learning to adjust the position and size of the cams to create different types of movements.
The participants worked together, helping each other with construction and sharing ideas to create all different types of animations from fish tanks to ghouls jumping rocks. They gained valuable skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork.
When the participants completed their toys, they were proud of their creations and eager to take them home to show off to their families and friends.
